East Algoma OPP – Arrest made after disturbance and family dispute

On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at approximately 8:30 a.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a family dispute on Frances Street in the Town of Thessalon.

A parent, who had removed themselves from the residence for safety reasons, contacted police requesting assistance in removing their adult child from the home. The parent reported obvious signs of drug use, significant damage to the property, and that the adult child had locked the doors.

Police gained entry to the residence and arrested the individual. The arrested party was transported to the hospital in Blind River for assessment and was released back into police custody on the afternoon of April 1, 2026.

As a result of the investigation, Elliot HAMILTON, 23 years old from Thessalon was charged with:

  • Mischief Under $5000
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order-other than to attend court (two counts)

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on April 1, 2026, and was remanded into custody.
