SE OPP White River – Charges laid at RIDE Checkpoint

On March 15, 2022 at approximately 2:39 p.m., members of the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduced Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint on Highway 17 in Vasiloff Township near White River.

At approximately 2:51 p.m., a sport utility vehicle (SUV) entered the checkpoint. Officers detected the odour of cannabis emanating from the vehicle and conducted a search pursuant to the Cannabis Control Act (CCA). The search yielded small quantities of suspected cannabis and cocaine as well as over $67,000 in currency.

As a result, Shane HENDRY, 25 years-of-age, of York was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, contrary to section 12(1) of the CCA,
  • Failure to comply with undertaking, contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC) (Four Counts),
  • Failure to comply with Release Order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC (Three Counts),
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC, and
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

Shane HENDRY was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.

In addition, Marven BOUTILIER, 29 years-of-age, of Brampton was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC, and
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

Marven BOUTILIER was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 4, 2022 in Wawa.
