On March 3, 2022, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call in relation to a break and enter at an apartment on Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake.
Police viewed video surveillance and the person was recognized. At approximately 2:15 p.m. police attended a different apartment building in order to speak to the person seen on the video surveillance. Upon arrival, that individual was located passed out in the common area staircase. When awoken, they exhibited signs of drug impairment and subsequently arrested. Also, in their possession police located break-in tools and a knife hidden in their sock.
Trenton RICHER, 25 years-old of Elliot Lake, was charged with:
- Break, Enter a Place – Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
- Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC
- Breach of Recognizance (Four Counts), contrary to section 811 of the CC
- Carry Concealed Weapon, contrary to section 90 of the CC
- Possession of Break In Instruments, contrary to section 351(1) of the CC
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Two Counts) – Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
