News Tidbits:

A collision on HWY 17 eastbound between HWY 17B (E) and HWY 17B (W) – BAR RIVER RD (E&W). 2 lanes and Eastbound shoulder closed. The highway was closed at 12:30 a.m.

There are seven active fires across the region. One fire is under control and four are being observed. At the time of this update, two fires are not yet under control. The fire hazard varies from low to moderate across the Northeast Region.

 

There are 11 active fires in the Northwest Region. One fire was not under control, six fires were under control and four fires were being observed. One fire was declared out today. The fire hazard varies from low along the Minnesota border, Thunder Bay and north shore areas, to a mainly moderate hazard across the region. Areas of high hazard occupy the southern portions of the Red Lake and Sioux Lookout sectors.

$498,000 through NOHFC will be used to help increase tourism, boost economic development and create 13 new jobs in the Kenora-Rainy River region.

  • $400,000 for Big Grassy Logistics Genpar Inc. (BGL), a freight carrier located in Morson, to expand its current fleet of trucks and trailers. The project will create 12 full-time jobs and support the cargo-carrying needs for New Gold Inc.’s Rainy River Mine.
  • $98,000 for the Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls to transform its existing roadside rest stop on Hwy. 71 into a dynamic tourist destination. Upgrades include improved signage, landscaping, a new information kiosk and picnic shelter, and an accessible pathway to the water and lookout over the falls. The project will create one new seasonal job.

 

Premier Doug Ford will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, and Paul Calandra, Government House Leader, to make an announcement at 1 p.m.
