Police Report March 7-10th

During the above time period, the Michipicoten Township Police Service responded to seventeen (17) calls for service.  Following are the incidents that are reportable to the public.

On March 7th police were dispatched to a minor motor vehicle collision in the parking lot of a local motel.  Damages were estimated at $500.00.  No charges were laid.

On March 8th a Wawa resident advised that his cottage on Wawa Lake had been broken into.  This matter is still under investigation.

A 19-year-old male from Wawa, Ontario was issued a Provincial Offence Notice on March 9th for entering premises when entry prohibited, contrary to the Trespass to Property Act of Ontario.  He was fined $70.00.

Police issued six (6) parking tags for snow removal during the above time period.  Residents are reminded that no person shall park or stand a vehicle on any highway, parts of highways or sides of highways in the Township of Michipicoten, between the hours of 1:00 am and 8:00 am commencing October 15th to and including May 15th.

Police have concluded their investigation into the theft of wood from a local resident on March 5th.  As a result, a 14-year-old male youth of Wawa, Ontario and a 17-year-old male youth of Wawa, Ontario were charged with theft under $5,000.00.  They will appear in court in May.

COURT NEWS:

A charge of possession of child pornography was withdrawn against Michael KENNY, 28 years of age of Wawa, Ontario.  Mr. KENNY plead guilty to knowingly supplying liquor to person under 19 years, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario.  He was fined $2,000.00 and placed on probation for twelve (12) months.

Dale SWANSON, 32 years of age of Wawa, Ontario plead guilty to common assault and breach of probation.  He was fined $500.00 and placed on probation for twelve (12) months.

Charges of impaired driving, refuse breathalyzer test and fail to attend court were withdrawn against John KRULL, 33 years of age of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan (USA).
