The Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing to ask for the public’s assistance in locating a 16 year old girl (Delaine Copenace) from Kenora who was reported missing on February 28, 2016.
The search has expanded into the surrounding areas of Kenora and is continuing with the assistance of the OPP Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP K9 Unit, the OPP Provincial Liaison Team (PLT), Canadian Pacific Police Service, Treaty Three Police, Lake of the Woods Search and Rescue (LOWSAR), the Canadian Centre for Child Protection and a large number of community volunteers.
Anyone who has seen COPENACE or knows of her whereabouts is asked to contact the Kenora OPP at (807) 548-5534 or call 1-888-310-1122.
Since the initial report was received by the OPP, efforts to locate Delaine have also continued to expand to include police, media and community partners across the country.
The ground search conducted by the ERT and Underwater Search and Recovery Unit was suspended on March 14, 2016.
On Saturday, March 12, 2016, members of the Kenora OPP set up two checkpoints in the downtown area asking all motorists and pedestrians if they had any information to share.
Over the last two weeks, the OPP thoroughly searched the downtown area and expanded into other areas of the city. Members of the OPP will continue to canvass residences and establishments within the community.
Police are still requesting the public to come forward with any information pertaining to Delaine’s whereabouts. These tips will be followed up and thoroughly investigated. The investigation is continuing under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy Heida of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
