The Wawa Sno-Riders have received $39,000 from the Wawa Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) Fund to purchase a side-by-side vehicle and brush saw for trail maintenance.

Members of the Wawa MAT Fund Committee presented the cheque during the Sno-Riders’ recent open house. The new equipment will help club volunteers maintain approximately 250 kilometres of snowmobile trails in the Wawa area.

The Wawa MAT Fund provides non-repayable contributions to eligible individuals, businesses and community organizations for projects that support tourism growth and development in the Municipality of Wawa.

Funding comes from the Municipal Accommodation Tax collected by local hotels, motels and short-term rentals. Half of the revenue collected goes to the Municipality of Wawa, while the remaining half is directed to the Wawa MAT Fund for tourism development.

Applications are reviewed by the Wawa MAT Fund Committee, which meets on the second Thursday of each month. Funding is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to available funds.

Application forms are available at www.superioreastcfdc.ca. For more information, contact Heidi Trudeau at [email protected] or 705-856-1105, ext. 223.
