East Algoma OPP – Driver arrested after ALPR system alerts to wanted person

On October 6, 2026, at approximately 8:00 a.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting patrols on Taylor Street in Bruce Mines when the ALPR system alerted officers to a vehicle associated with a driver wanted in British Columbia in connection with intimate partner violence-related criminal charges.

Officers initiate a traffic stop on the blue passenger vehicle. During the investigation, the driver was identified and confirmed to be the subject of outstanding warrants from British Columbia. Police also determined the individual was in breach of a release condition.

The 58-year-old driver from British Columbia was arrested and charged with: Failure to comply with release order-other that to attend court.

The accused was processed and held for a bail hearing with a later court date scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake.

Due to the nature of the investigation and the need to protect the identity and safety of the victim, further details will not be released. The Ontario Provincial Police is committed to supporting victims of intimate partner violence and pursuing offenders, regardless of where they are in Canada.
