On Thursday, August 20, 2026, at approximately 7:00 a.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 17 in the Municipality of Huron Shores when officers observed an eastbound black car travelling at a high rate of speed.
A traffic stop was initiated, and the investigation revealed the licence plates displayed on the vehicle were still registered to the previous owner.
As a result, a 52-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
- Speeding
- Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner
- Use plate not authorized for vehicle.
The OPP reminds motorists that properly registering a vehicle and ensuring licence plates are authorized for the vehicle being driven are legal requirements in Ontario.
Traffic enforcement remains a key part of keeping our highways safe for all road users.
