Bringing a close to six days of elite competition at the Essar Centre, Team Mouat (Edinburgh, Scotland) and Team Jones (Winnipeg) have claimed victory at the Boost National in Sault Ste. Marie.
In men’s competition, Team Mouat captured its first career Grand Slam title following a 9-4 victory over first-time Grand Slam finalists Team Kim (Uiseong, South Korea). With the win, Team Mouat takes home $30,000 of the $125,000 men’s purse and qualifies for the Humpty’s Champions Cup, the final Grand Slam event of the season.
“I’m really excited,” said 23-year-old skip Bruce Mouat, who becomes the youngest men’s skip to capture a Grand Slam title. “It’s so tough, it’s unbelievable really just the competition we’ve had. We’ve played so well and hopefully, it’s a sign of things to come.”
In women’s action, Team Jones claimed its ninth career Grand Slam title after edging out Team Scheidegger (Lethbridge, AB) 8-7 in Sunday’s final. Along with its second consecutive Grand Slam title, Team Jones collects $30,000 of the $125,000 women’s purse.
“It feels amazing, it’s always so hard to win a Slam,” said skip Jennifer Jones. “It feels great. We’ve been working hard and making some big shots when we have to.”
