On September 26, 2021 members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the Espanola Recreational Centre regarding individuals who were trespassing on the property. OPP had attended earlier in the day and requested the individuals leave. The individuals returned to the property a short time later.
As a result of the investigation:
Melisa RANCOURT, 47-years-old from Espanola was arrested and charged with:
- Resist Peace Officer contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code, and
- Enter Premises When Entry Prohibited contrary to section 2(1)(a)(i) of the Tresspass to Property Act (TPA)
A 39-year-old from Espanola was also arrested and charged with:
- Enter Premises When Entry Prohibited contrary to section 2(1)(a)(i) of the TPA
The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on November 15, 2021, in Espanola.
