News Tidbits

It was interesting to read in the Sault Star that there are more air ambulance flights now than passenger aircraft, an average of 45 – 60 flights monthly. This is probably similiar numbers for Wawa – who has not had scheduled passenger flights since NorOntario (1996) and then Bearskin for a short time. With the pandemic there has been fewer transient aircraft landing as well.

Great news – plastic grocery bags, straws, stir sticks, six-pack rings, cutlery and food containers will be banned by the end of 2021.

Ontario will soon be home to a new renewable natural gas (RNG) facility, which will create local jobs and stimulate regional economic development, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Canada.

Ontario is supporting the $42 million dollar facility in Niagara Falls. The Niagara Falls Renewable Natural Gas plant is a partner ship between Enbridge, Walker Industries and Comcor Environmental – to build a facility that will generate energy from landfill waste by capturing biogas generated by decomposing organic waste and transforming it into renewable natural gas. The energy created would heat 8,750 homes across the country and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 48,000 tonnes.

Don’t Forget – Algoma Power has a scheduled power outage for Highway 17N of Desolation Lake including Tamawa Road and the Marion Lake Tower Site today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for line upgrades.
