Nipigon OPP – Individual Charged after Failing to stop for Police

Members of the Nipigon and Greenstone Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one individual after failing to stop for police.

On October 2, 2026, at around 9:30 a.m., members of the Nipigon OPP Detachment attempted to stop a grey Ford F-150 pick up truck on Highway 11 in the Township of Nipigon, the male was believed to be a prohibited driver. The vehicle failed to stop for police and continued northbound on Highway 11 passing vehicles and driving at excessively high rates of speed. At approximately 12:16 p.m. officers observed the suspect vehicle and male driver on Highway 11 near Jellicoe in the Township of Greenstone. The vehicle attempted to avoid police, traveling at speeds between 170km/hr to 180km/hr. Officers from both Nipigon and Greenstone OPP attempted to stop the motor vehicle unsuccessfully, officers did not pursue any further. A short time later the vehicle was observed parked outside of a residence in Jellicoe, the male driver came out from the bush towards officers and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Michael METANSININE 55 -years of Jellicoe, Ontario was arrested and charged for offences under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act

  • Driver motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused was remanded into custody and held for a bail hearing.
