Nipigon OPP – Driver Charged after Parking Lot Collision

On September 25, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Nipigon Detachment responded to a report of a collision in the parking lot of a local coffee shop / gas station on Highway 11&17, near the Town of Nipigon. The driver of the commercial motor vehicle, a white Freightliner had stuck a pole as well as another commercial motor vehicle, also a white Freightliner, parked in the parking lot. The driver showed signs of impairment was subsequently arrested for impaired operation and transported to the detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Asad JANJUA, 58-years-old, of Saskatoon, SK has been criminally charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

Additionally, the accused was charged with:

  • Adult Having Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, Contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act.

Minor injuries were reported as a result of this MVC. The Accused received a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Nipigon on a later date.
