East Algoma OPP – 35 Charges Laid after CDSA search warrant executed in Thessalon

On September 2, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the North East Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance from the OPP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant on Federation Street in the Town of Thessalon.

Police seized 103.8 grams of suspected cocaine, 4.8 grams of suspected fentanyl, and 44 grams of suspected methamphetamine, with a combined estimated street value of approximately $15,740. Also seized were three crossbows, three rifles, one shotgun, seven replica firearms, ammunition, $1,890 in Canadian currency, a cellphone, two scales, and packaging materials.

As a result, Donald BADGERO, 42 years old from Thessalon, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm – four counts
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm – four counts
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose – four counts
  • Breach of firearms regulations-store firearm or restricted weapon -four counts
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition – five counts
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order – 10 counts

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on September 2, 2026, and was remanded into custody.
