On Monday, August 31, 2026, members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a suspicious person pacing outside a residence on Highway 557 in the Town of Blind River.
At approximately 9:15 p.m., police attended the residence and located the individual standing in the driveway. Officers planned to provide the individual with a courtesy ride back to Blind River. Prior to being transported, the individual was searched and found to be in possession of a pair of brass knuckles, resulting in their arrest.
As a result, Joshua THUNAES, 34 years old, from Elliot Lake was charged with:
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of prohibited device or ammunition
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on November 17, 2026.
