Thunder Bay OPP – Investigation continues into fatal collision

Members of the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal collision involving a tractor trailer unit and passenger vehicle.

On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m. EDT, OPP officers along with emergency medical services responded to reports of a collision at the intersection of Mapleward Road and Highway 11-17.

One individual, a 19-year-old female from Thunder Bay, was transported to hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

A section of Highway 11-17 was closed for several hours while the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team conducted their investigation but has since reopened.
