East Algoma OPP – CMV Driver charged with Six HTA Offences

Commercial motor vehicle driver charged with six Highway Traffic Act offences.

On Thursday, August 6, 2026, at approximately 3:35 p.m., a member of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit was travelling eastbound on Highway 17 in the Iron Bridge area when they observed a commercial motor vehicle in front of them being operated in an unsafe manner.

The officer observed the tractor-trailer braking abruptly, following a vehicle too closely, and forcing the vehicle off the roadway.

The officer initiated a traffic stop at the west end of Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

As a result, the 26-year-old driver from Brampton was charged with:

• Careless driving
• Follow too closely
• Drive left of centre – on a curve
• Drive left of centre – approaching crest of grade
• Speeding
• Possess more than one licence

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Provincial Offences in Blind River on September 15, 2026.

All motorists, including commercial vehicle operators, have a responsibility to share the road safely. Unsafe driving behaviours put all road users at risk. The OPP remains committed to improving road safety through education and enforcement.
