With increased traffic volumes during the Civic Holiday long weekend, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Nipigon and Schreiber Detachments conducted enforcement initiatives on local roads and waterways to promote safety and reduce the risk of collisions and injuries.
Throughout the weekend, officers laid 162 charges related to traffic safety, including:
- 114 speeding charges
- 2 excessive speed/stunt driving charges
- 2 seatbelt charges
- 3 Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charges
- 41 other Highway Traffic Act and Provincial Offence charges
Safety is everyone’s responsibility and by making safe and responsible choices, we can all help make our communities safer.
The OPP thanks all drivers and passengers who made safety a top priority this long weekend. Together, we can continue to prevent avoidable tragedies on our roads.
