East Algoma OPP – Charges Laid in Break & Enter at business

On June 17 and June 18, 2022 the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested two people in relation to a break and enter at a retail store on Highway 108 and convenient store on Hillside Drive South in Elliot Lake.

On June 10, 2022 at approximately 1:50 a.m. police received an alarm call to the retail store on Highway 108. The front door glass had been smashed and the door had been breached. Police later viewed the security camera footage which showed two people entering the store and stealing numerous items.

On June 16, 2022 at approximately 4:45 a.m. police were called to a break and enter at a convenient store on Hillside Drive South. Forced entry was gained through a rear door and numerous lottery tickets and a laptop were stolen. Again, police viewed the video surveillance which looked to show the same two persons.

Wesley MAYNES, 64 years-old, of Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Break, Enter a Place – Commit Indictable Offence (Two Counts), contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Theft Under $5000 (Two Counts), contrary to section 334(b) of the CC
  • Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC
  • Mischief Over $5000, contrary to section 430(3) of the CC
  • Possession Break In Instruments (Two Counts), contrary to section 351(1) of the CC
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC

William (Bill) SINCLAIR, 52 years-old, of Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Break, Enter a Place – Commit Indictable Offence (Two Counts), contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Theft Under $5000 (Two Counts), contrary to section 334(b) of the CC
  • Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC
  • Mischief Over $5000, contrary to section 430(3) of the CC
  • Possession Break In Instruments, contrary to section 351(1) of the CC
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking (Three Counts), contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the CC
  • Disguise With Intent (Two Counts), contrary to section 351(2) of the CC

Both accused persons were scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court.
