SSM OPP – Fatal Collision Victim Identified

On March 27, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members from the Sault Ste Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Sault Ste Marie Paramedic Services and Batchewana Fire Rescue responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a car and an SUV on Highway 17 at Sawpit Bay in Ryan Township (north of Pancake Provincial Park).

Investigation determined a car was travelling south bound on Highway 17 and crossed the centre line colliding head on with a north bound SUV.

The single occupant/driver of the car, Clovis VALLIERES, 25 years-old from Hearst was pronounced deceased at scene.

The driver of the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries was transported to local hospital in Sault Ste Marie.

The investigation is on-going with the OPP’s North East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME) and the Technical Collision Investigators (TCI).
