East Algoma OPP – Impaired Charges laid after collision

On March 19, 2022, at approximately 2:30 a.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic related complaint of a possible impaired driver in the Timmins Road and Dieppe Avenue area in Elliot Lake.

The complainant reported that a vehicle was in the ditch and the driver appeared to be drunk. A short time later, police located the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the ditch at that location. The SUV had gone through the snowbank and ditch, then into some cedar trees of a backyard. It was stuck but the driver was still attempting to drive it out. The driver was spoken to who exhibited signs of impairment and a strong odour of alcoholic beverage emanated from their breath. An open bottle of liquor was also found inside the vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Natasha ROSE, 34 years-old, from Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand, contrary to section 320.15(1) of the CC
  • Novice Driver – Fail to Provide Breath Sample, contrary to section 48.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 3, 2022.
