Manitoulin OPP – Arrests Made Firearms & Currency Seized

On July 11, 2020, at approximately 11:44 p.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information that persons wanted out of Toronto were headed to Manitoulin Island from the Greater City of Sudbury.

The vehicle was located and stopped on Highway 6, Little Current. All persons in the vehicle were arrested without incident. A firearm and a large quantity of Canadian currency was seized. The Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit is assisting with the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, the following persons have been arrested and charged:

  1. Michael LAUDER, 22 years-old, of Scarborough was charged with:
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Possession of a firearm knowing Serial Number has been Tampered with contrary to section 108(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition contrary to section 86(1) of the CC and,
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – in Canada contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused was held for Bail Court in Gore Bay with a scheduled bail hearing on July 13, 2020.

 

2. Karen CONSTANTIN, 47 years-old, of Wikwemikong First Nation was charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Possession of a firearm knowing Serial Number has been Tampered with contrary to section 108(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition contrary to section 86(1) of the CC,
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC and,
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – in Canada contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused was held for Bail Court in Gore Bay with a scheduled bail hearing on July 13, 2020.

 

3. Adam SHAWANA, 71 years-old, of Wikwemikong First Nation was charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Possession of a firearm knowing Serial Number has been Tampered with contrary to section 108(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition contrary to section 86(1) of the CC and,
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – in Canada contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused was released on an Undertaking with a court date of September 30th, 2020 in Gore Bay.

Public safety is not believed to be a concern at this time.
