MNRF – Watershed Conditions for Wawa & Area

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry – Wawa District is advising area residents that a Watershed Conditions Statement – Flood Outlook is in effect in the District until Friday, May 10, 2019

Residents in Wawa District should be aware that conditions could be dangerous for boaters, anglers, swimmers and other recreational users. Although no flooding is anticipated based on current forecasts, special caution should be used around rivers and streams. Please alert any children under your care to these dangers and supervise their activities.

The ministry is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions. Further updates will be issued as appropriate.

Description of Weather System

With received and forecasted precipitation\ temperatures, some of the winter snowpack has been released back into the watershed resulting in a slight increase in water levels in local lakes, rivers, and streams. Nighttime temperatures will range between a low of minus 2° and a high of 2° supporting a moderate rate of melting. Daytime temperatures will reach 12°

Description of Current Conditions

With forecasted precipitation and the increasing temperatures, the rate of melt has not reached critical levels but will continue to increase over the next week. River flows and lake levels are at a seasonal normal. However, as temperatures and accumulated precipitation amounts increase, the potential for flooding also increases throughout the district.
