Weather – Sunny early this morning then a mix of sun and cloud with 40 percent chance of showers late this afternoon. Risk of a thunderstorm late this afternoon. Wind becoming southwest 20 km/h this afternoon. High 23 except 16 near Lake Superior. UV index 8 or very high. Tonight will be Mainly cloudy with 60 percent chance of showers and risk of a thunderstorm. Fog patches developing overnight. Wind southwest 20 km/h becoming light this evening. Low 13.

Marine – Wind southeast 10 knots becoming light this morning then becoming southeast 15 early this evening. Wind veering to southwest 15 near midnight then diminishing to southwest 10 Friday morning. Wind becoming light near noon Friday then becoming southeast 10 Friday evening.

Chance of showers beginning early this evening changing to showers overnight then to chance of showers Friday afternoon and evening. Risk of thunderstorms tonight and Friday. Fog patches forming early this evening.

Waves one half metre or less building to one this evening then subsiding to one half metre or less Friday morning.

Forest Fire –

There are three active forest fires in the Northeast Region, by late afternoon on May 23.

  • Wawa fire number 6 covers 0.5 of a hectare. It is located approximately 12 km east of the community of Dubreuilville and is not yet under control at the time of this report.
  • Chapleau fire number 4 is located approximately 25 km northwest of Foleyet, it is being held at 5 hectares.
  • Chapleau fire number 5 is under control at 0.5 of a hectare approximately 2 km southeast of Foleyet.

The forest fire hazard is moderate to high across the Northeast Region.

News Tidbits – The vehicle and driver involved in the May 22nd collision in Sault Sainte Marie where the pedestrian died has been located. Sault Ste. Marie police say, “At this time, no charges have been laid and the investigation is continuing. We would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter. ”
