July 2nd – Interdenominational Service Held Outdoors at LDHC

Aug 1, 2017 @ 14:44

The Christian clergy in Wawa have been meeting together on about a quarterly basis for the past few years. One of the items discussed was to have a shared summertime ‘service in the park’. It was celebrations. It was by all accounts, a successful event!

The service was held in the garden area of the Lady Dunn Health Centre which enabled the residents of the Long Term Care to attend with ease. As we were uncertain as to what the weather would be like, Calvary Pentecostal Church was the backup location in case of rain. But the weather held, it did not rain, and the sun even came out at the end of the service. There were an estimated 75 people in attendance. Each of the churches provided input into the program, including Bible readings, prayers and hymns – including a jazzed up version of Amazing Grace, one of the older hymns – Part of the Family of God, and a LDHC resident favourite – He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands. Of course we included a hymn for Christian unity and O Canada. A Christian service would not be complete without The Lord’s Prayer, so it was said along with other prayers for our community and our country. Of course, no special service would be complete without some food to finish things off. A potluck picnic was held and as with all church potlucks everything was delicious!

All of those in attendance were very happy with the service (including one who watched it from her apartment balcony) and there have been numerous requests to make it an annual event. A big ‘thank you’ to Matt Trudeau of the Lady Dunn Health Centre for all of his work in setting up the garden and to all of the clergy who made the event happen, with their dedication and hard work.
