Just after 12:30 p.m. officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a report of found human remains on Whitefish Island. A person walking in the area reported finding a human hand in the water on the South side of Whitefish Island.
Officers attended the area and found the item partially submerged in water. When officers were able to get down to the area and retrieved the item from the water it was found to be a realistic prosthetic hand with blood on it and not an actual human hand.
Officers have now cleared the area in relation to this incident.

Just after 12:30 p.m. officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a call for service regarding found human remains on the South side of Whitefish Island.
At this time, officers with the Criminal Investigations Division and Emergency Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will be working with officers from the Ontario Provincial Police and Batchewana First Nation Police Service to conduct a search of the area.
Further information will be released when it becomes available.
