The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon is proud to welcome two new Student Trustees for the 2026-2027 school year. Émilie Philippe, a grade 12 student at École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron), and Havana Thibodeau-Bello, a grade 12 student at École secondaire Saint-Joseph (Wawa), were officially sworn in during a Board meeting held on September 29. In their roles as Student Trustees, they will represent the students of their respective districts at Board meetings and on the CSC Nouvelon Student Senate
Havana Thibodeau-Bello is thrilled to begin her term as Student Trustee for the Algoma district. Recognized for her leadership, organizational skills, and commitment to school life, she serves as Prime Minister for her school’s Student Parliament. In recent years, she also had the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Ontario Legislative Assembly Page Program in Toronto. Creative, driven, and proud of her Cuban and Franco-Ontarian heritage, Havana is trilingual and nurtures her entrepreneurial spirit through her jewelry business. Passionate about sports, she is actively involved in soccer and running. Drawing on her diverse experiences, Havana plans to pursue postsecondary studies in law and management.
Proud of her Francophone identity, Émilie Philippe enthusiastically embraces her role as Student Trustee for the Sudbury-Manitoulin district. At school, she contributes to student life as a member of the Student Parliament and helps organize activities that foster a welcoming, inclusive and engaging school environment. Her initiative is also reflected in her community involvement, particularly through her participation with the Fédération de la jeunesse franco-ontarienne (FESFO). In addition, Émilie generously shares her knowledge and experience by coaching young ringette athletes and providing tutoring support to elementary students. Committed to using her leadership to make a positive impact, she plans to pursue studies in political science with the goal of fulfilling her dream of becoming Attorney General.
“Our two student trustees help ensure that the voices and perspectives of students are represented throughout our Board as well as play an essential role in promoting French-language Catholic education,” says CSC Nouvelon Chair Suzanne Salituri.
“Émilie and Havana are outstanding ambassadors of CSC Nouvelon values,” said CSC Nouvelon Director of Education Tom Michaud. “We are proud to see our students take on these important roles and grow through this valuable experience as they strengthen their Catholic and Francophone leadership skills.”
