LDHCF receives Generous Donation from Mr. Gay

The Lady Dunn Health Centre Foundation was surprised by a very generous donation to the foundation by Mr. William Gay. Born at the Lady Dunn, William grew up in Hawk Junction, with his children also having being born at the Lady Dunn.

A member of Michipicoten First Nation (MFN), William worked at the Algoma Ore Division in Wawa until its closure in 1997. He then moved to Sault Ste. Marie to work at Algoma Steel. He is now retired.

William was able to receive funds from the land settlement. He stated that he appreciated the efforts of MFN Chief Edgar and Band Council to secure and manage the settlement for the band members.

After receiving his portion of the settlement, William read about the hospital requiring beds and other equipment, and after consulting with his sons, he decided to donate $20,000 to the Foundation. His sage comment was, “We are always taking, and I wanted to give instead.”

Susan Switzer, Chair of the Lady Dunn Health Centre Foundation, explained, “We are grateful to Mr. Gay for his extraordinarily generous and unexpected donation to the LDHC Foundation. His generosity will make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families in our communities. We thank him for using a portion of his land settlement to support our hospital in such a significant way.”
