East Algoma OPP – Intimate Partner Violence Results in Criminal Charges

On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a matter involving intimate partners in the Town of Blind River.

As a result of the investigation, OPP learned that the involved suspect had committed criminal acts against their partner.

With the assistance from the OPP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) a 39-year-old from Blind River was arrested and was charged under the Criminal Code with the following offences:

• Assault – spousal
• Assault cause bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle
• Failure to comply with undertaking

The accused was processed and held for a bail hearing with a later court date scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake.
