Following a successful matching gift campaign in 2025 where construction professionals Mike Moore and Terry Rainone helped raise over $22,000 for The Kidney Foundation, Moore is once again rallying support—this time with more businesses joining the effort.
Naming themselves ‘The Construction Guys’, led by Moore, a group of business leaders have contributed $25,000 to the upcoming Sault Ste. Marie Kidney Walk and are now challenging the community to collectively match their gifts – helping to further build a community of hope for people living with kidney disease.
Moore, a dialysis patient since 2018, recently received a kidney transplant at the age of 71. He feels great post-transplant and is doing better than expected. Prior to his transplant, Moore states that he endured 4,700 hours of dialysis over six years which equates to 195 days of his life.
This will be the fourth year that Moore has participated in the Kidney Walk, an event of great importance to him. “It means I get a big chance to bring awareness to the country about kidney disease, the complications and the emotions that go with it,” he says. He plans to walk the 5 kilometres, just weeks after his transplant. He also hopes people understand the importance of registering to become an organ donor and talking to your family about your wishes. As a result of his transplant, Moore says, “I have a new lease on life!”
Moore says while in hospital post-transplant, he spoke with several doctors who shared that they had received funding for their research from The Kidney Foundation. He says, “World-class kidney research is funded through initiatives such as the Kidney Walk. Additionally, The Kidney Foundation provides various types of support for patients and their families navigating this chronic illness.”
Aside from Mike Moore Construction, businesses that have already come forward with gifts include: Terrain Construction Management, The National Group, Caswell Concrete Products, Anmar Group Sudbury, Steel Speed, Trimount Construction, Sal Dan Group and OCP Construction Supplies.
The annual Sault Ste. Marie Kidney Walk will take place on Sunday, September 27 at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion, uniting kidney patients and their loved ones, renal professionals, living kidney donors and more to support one another and raise funds for The Kidney Foundation.
To donate to the matching gift challenge and double your impact, gifts must be made to the Sault Ste. Marie Kidney Walk, a participant or team here between now and September 27. Individuals who wish to participate in the Kidney Walk must register in advance at kidneywalk.ca.
