FONOM Welcomes Ontario’s Renewed Cabinet

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) congratulates Ontario’s new and returning ministers and associate ministers following yesterday’s cabinet changes announced by Premier Doug Ford.

FONOM welcomes

• Sam Oosterhoff as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness;
• David Piccini as Minister of Infrastructure;
• Trevor Jones as Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development;
• Kinga Surma as President of the Treasury Board; and
• Zee Hamid as Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming.

FONOM also congratulates

• Brian Saunderson on his appointment as Minister of Sport,
• Matthew Rae as Associate Minister of Energy-Intensive Industries,
• Michelle Cooper as Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, and
• Vijay Thanigasalam as Associate Minister of Artificial Intelligence Adoption.

FONOM welcomes Natalia Kusendova-Bashta’s expanded responsibilities as Minister of Long-Term Care and Minister of Francophone Affairs.

“On behalf of FONOM and our 110 member municipalities, I congratulate everyone appointed to Ontario’s renewed cabinet,” said FONOM President Dave Plourde. “We look forward to building productive relationships with ministers taking on new responsibilities while continuing our strong work with returning ministers and their staff.”

FONOM looks forward to continuing its work with George Pirie, Vic Fedeli, Greg Rickford, Prabmeet Sarkaria, Rob Flack, Stephen Lecce, Sylvia Jones, Michael Kerzner, Kevin Holland, Lisa Thompson and Mike Harris on priorities affecting Northern Ontario.

These priorities include highway safety and four-laning, infrastructure, housing, policing costs, mental health and addictions, forestry, energy, workforce development and economic growth.

“Northern Ontario is essential to building a stronger, more competitive and self-reliant province,” added Plourde. “FONOM is ready to continue working with Premier Ford and all ministries to ensure Northern communities are included in Ontario’s long-term plans.”

FONOM also thanks Caroline Mulroney, Neil Lumsden and Stan Cho for their service in cabinet and their contributions to the province.
