East Algoma OPP – Former Residents Caught in PEI, Brought Back to Ontario to appear in Court

On September 1, 2026, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI) to return two people back to Ontario. Both were former residents of Elliot Lake.

On August 18, 2026, Charlottetown Police Service arrested two people who were breaching prior release conditions to not have any communication with each other. After further investigation, it was learned that each person had multiple committal warrants and numerous bench warrants for failing to attend court.

In addition, both were charged again for failing to attend court.

Ginette WITHERS, 48-years-old, of Charlottetown, PEI, was charged with:

  • Failure to attend court after having appeared

Andrew KIRK, 48-years-old, of Tors Cove, Newfoundland, was charged with:

  • Failure to attend court after having appeared

The accused persons were scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie on September 2, 2026, and were remanded into custody.
