Seven new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region since the previous update.
- Dryden 68 (DRY068) is located near Daniels Lake, approximately 7 kilometers north of Highway 17. The 0.1-hectare fire is now out.
- Nipigon 108 (NIP108) is located near Eskwanonwatin Lake, approximately 21 kilometers west of Highway 585. The 0.5-hectare fire is not under control.
- Fort Frances 69 (FOR069) is located near Highway 502, approximately 2 kilometers northwest of Bearpaw Lake. The 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.
- Fort Frances 70 (FOR070) is located near Highway 502, approximately 1 kilometer west of Laver Lake. The 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.
- Fort Frances 71 (FOR071) is located near the east end of Bearpaw Lake, approximately 4 kilometers east of Highway 502. The 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.
- Fort Frances 72 (FOR072) is located south of Bearpaw Lake, approximately 4.5 kilometers east of Highway 502. The 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.
- Thunder Bay 86 (THU086) is located on an island on Max Lake, approximately 1 kilometer west of Highway 527. The 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.
At the time of this update there are 62 active wildland fires in the Northwest Region. Of those fires, 9 are not under control, 3 are being held, 12 are under control and 38 are being observed.
Fires of note
The Rinker Lake Complex – Thunder Bay 36 (THU036), Dryden 34 (DRY034), Dryden 35 (DRY035)
- All 3 fires in the complex remain classified as “not under control”, which can describe a wide spectrum of fire activity.
- Fire activity across the complex has remained on the lower end of the spectrum in recent days although smoke remains visible in some areas.
- Firefighting crews, supported by helicopter bucketing operations, are focused on suppressing hotspots while demobilizing equipment as required.
- THU036 is currently measuring 301,240 hectares and remains not under control.
- DRY034 is currently measuring 45,800 hectares and remains not under control.
- DRY035 is currently measuring 30,158 hectares and remains not under control.
