Northeast Region

There were no new wildland fires confirmed in the Northeast Region today.

At the time of this update, there are 20 active wildland fires in the Northeast Region. Of those fires, 1 is not under control, 1 is being held, 1 is under control, and 17 are being observed.

Northwest Region

Updated: June 30, 2026 at 18:30 p.m.  Central Daylight Time (CDT)

There were 3 new wildland fires confirmed in the Northwest Region by the early evening of June 30.

  • Dryden 20 (DRY020) is located near Glider Lake, approximately 19 kilometres east of Perrault Falls. The fire is not under control at 0.2 hectares.
  • Fort Frances 14 (FOR014) is located approximately 35 kilometres southwest of Upsala near Byers Lake. The 4.0 hectare fire is not under control.
  • Thunder Bay 30 (THU030) is located near Huronian Lake, approximately 28 kilometres west of Kashabowie. The 3.0 hectare fire is not under control and received air attack from water bombers today.

At the time of this update there are 72 active wildland fires in the Northwest Region. Of these fires, 30 are not under control, 2 fires are being held, 4 fires are under control and 36 are being observed. One fire has been called out over the past 24 hours.

A reconnaissance flight in the far north of the Sioux Lookout sector located 12 new fire starts during the evening hours of June 29, following the previous update.

  • Sioux Lookout 54 (SLK054) – 48 hectares, being observed. 37 kilometres northwest of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation (Big Trout Lake).
  • Sioux Lookout 55 (SLK055) – 9 hectares, being observed. 59 kilometres southwest of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation (Big Trout Lake).
  • Sioux Lookout 53 (SLK053) – 49 hectares, being observed. 38 kilometres northwest of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation (Big Trout Lake).
  • Sioux Lookout 52 (SLK052) – 240 hectares, being observed. 90 kilometres north of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation (Big Trout Lake).
  • Sioux Lookout 51 (SLK051) – 323 hectares, being observed. 57 kilometres north of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation (Big Trout Lake)
  • Sioux Lookout 50 (SLK050) – 181 hectares, being observed. 47 kilometres north of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation (Big Trout Lake).
  • Sioux Lookout 49 (SLK049) – 813 hectares, being observed. 62 kilometres northeast of Sachigo Lake.
  • Sioux Lookout 48 (SLK048) – 38 hectares, being observed. 76 kilometres northeast of Sachigo Lake
  • Sioux Lookout 47 (SLK047) – 27 hectares being observed. 100 kilometres north of Sachigo Lake
  • Sioux Lookout 46 (SLK046) – 442 hectares being observed. 116 kilometres north of Sachigo Lake on the Provincial boundary.
  • Sioux Lookout 45 (SLK045) – 95 hectares, being observed. 66 kilometres north of Sachigo Lake.
  • Sioux Lookout 44 (SLK044) – 55 hectares, being observed. 29 kilometres northeast of Sachigo Lake.

Fires of note

Kasabonika Complex
  • The fire area received overnight rainfall.
  • Nipigon 16 (NIP016) is located approximately 6 kilometres south of Kasabonika Lake First Nation Airport.
  • The fire was re-mapped today to an increased size of 1,472 hectares. The fire’s status remains not under control.
  • 9 FireRanger crews, 4 overhead staff, 4 helicopters and 1 fixed wing aircraft have been assigned to the Kasabonika Complex of fires.
  • Additional FireRanger crews are expected to join the suppression effort tomorrow.
  • Nipigon 12 (NIP012) is located approximately 20.0 kilometres west of Kasabonika Lake First Nation and currently measuring 1,110 hectares.
  • There are 4 additional fires in the area surrounding Kasabonika Lake First Nation.
    • Nipigon 13 (NIP013) is not under control and has been remapped to 298.0 hectares
    • Nipigon 14 (NIP014) is not under control at 2.0 hectares
    • Nipigon 15 (NIP015) is not under control at 0.1 hectares.
    • Nipigon 17 (NIP017) is under control at 0.7 hectares.

NOTAM in place – Kasabonika Complex
There is currently a NOTAM in the area of wildland fire Nipigon 16 near Kasabonika Lake First Nation. This is over and above the standard airspace restrictions imposed by Section 601.15 of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) which state that the airspace around all active forest fires is restricted to forest fire suppression aircraft only, specifically airspace within 5 nautical miles, up to an altitude of 3000 feet above ground level.
Pilots are reminded that NOTAMs concerning forest fires can be found on NavCanada’s Collaborative Flight Planning Services under the ‘Weather and NOTAM’ tab, when flight planning.

Sioux Lookout 21 – Wunnumin Lake First Nation
  • Sioux Lookout 21 (SLK021) remains 357 hectares in size and is not under control.
  • The fire is approximately 9.0 kilometres south of the Wunnumin Lake First Nation Airport.
  • FireRanger crews are making progress on a spot fire to the west of SLK 021 as well as establishing hoseline on the main fire’s west flank closest to the community.

NOTAM in effect – Sioux Lookout 21
There is currently a NOTAM in the area of wildland fire Sioux Lookout 21 fire near Wunnumin Lake First Nation.
