If you remember, the Screen for Life Coach from Thunder Bay stopped providing services to the Wawa and surrounding area in 2024. In response, a group of women took on the task of finding a way to get women their mammograms until we can get a Coach back in Wawa so women don’t have to travel.
Well it finally happened!
The first-ever Boob Bus with 13 wonderful women took off to the Sault Area Hospital on October 2nd for mammograms.
It was a day filled with laughter but could not have been possible without our driver Greg Schuler from Lacroix Bus Lines who put up with us and joined in on the laughter.
Many thanks also to the wonderful ladies in Diaognostic Imaging for treating us so special and joining in on the fun.
I would also like to thank Shelley Duplessis from the Wawa Family Health Team for meeting us at the hospital and staying with us for the whole day until we boarded the bus for home. You went above and beyond.
Lastly, I would like to thank Kadean Ogilvie-CEO of the Lady Dunn Hospital, Silvanna Dereski-Executive Director for the Wawa Family Health Team, Maury O’Neill CAO for the Township of Michipicoten and Shelley and Katherine from the Wawa Family Health team for making this happen.
I look forward to next year where hopefully we can arrange this again until we get a Screen for Life Coach back in Wawa.
Councillor Cathy Cannon
