On Thursday, June 19, 2025, at approximately 11:15 a.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting patrol duties on Highway 17 when they observed an eastbound blue car travelling at an excessively high rate of speed near Braniff Road.
The vehicle attempted to evade police on Highway 17 and was eventually located on Jarrett Drive, where it was observed in the driveway of a residence. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was arrested without incident.
As a result, a 17-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie was charged with:
- Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt (excessive speed)
- Fail to stop for police
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on August 6, 2025. The driver was issued a 30-day driver’s licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
Speeding is dangerous and puts everyone at risk. Slow down and drive responsibly.
