Six Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) students will wear Ontario colours at the upcoming Jeux de la francophonie canadienne (Canadian Francophone Games). Some 1,200 students from the 13 Canadian provinces and territories will compete in the Games that are being held in Moncton (New Brunswick) from July 11 to 15. The Canadian Francophone Games are among the largest gatherings of Francophone youth in Canada. In addition to encouraging hundreds of youngsters between the ages of 13 and 18 to exercise their talents in the fields of art, leadership and sports, the Francophone Games will showcase cultural pride, self-confidence and leadership abilities in a friendly competitive setting.
The following CSCNO students were selected for the Ontario team based on criteria of excellence in discipline and commitment to the Francophonie:
The students will take part in team Ontario’s training camp from July 7 to 10 in Ottawa. This will provide an opportunity for the Fédération de la jeunesse franco-ontarienne to unite team members for the first time as well as develop team spirit and prepare the students for the Games.
“Our youngsters have a unique opportunity to participate in a top-level cultural and identity gathering. Being able to meet and exchange with Francophones from across the country will enable them to discover the richness of Canada’s Francophone population,” explained CSCNO Director of Education, Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau. “The Jeux de la francophonie will provide our students with skill sets they can use to continue to assume leadership roles in our French language Catholic schools and in their community.
