Timmins Man dies in Hwy 11 Collision near Cobalt

At approximately 10:04 a.m., on January 30, 2019, officers from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fatal two vehicle collision on Highway 11, near the Town of Cobalt, Ontario.

Investigation has revealed that a sport utility vehicle (SUV) was northbound and a pickup truck was southbound on Highway 11. The vehicles collided and the driver of the SUV died at the scene. The driver has been identified as Steven MITCHELL, a 57-year-old man from Timmins, Ontario.

Two other people were brought to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 11 was closed for approximately seven hours while OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) and Collision Reconstructionists completed their investigation into the collision.

The investigation is continuing and the OPP is appealing to the public for assistance. If you have any information regarding the collision or any vehicle driver behaviour in the area around the time of the collision please immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
