East Algoma OPP – Deceased Victim Identified in Hit & Run Collision

The victim in the hit and run collision last Friday has been identified. Alicia FAULKNER, 36 years-of-age from Sault Ste Marie was pronounced deceased at the scene after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 17. Investigation has revealed that there were two good Samaritans that stopped to assist at the scene and police are asking them to contact the OPP.

On January 20, 2023, shortly after 9:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision where a pedestrian was killed by a vehicle on Highway 17 east of Bruce Mines.

The East Algoma OPP Crime Unit with assistance from the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team and Sault Ste Marie OPP Forensic Identification Services is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

The OPP is appealing to the public for possible dash cam footage from anyone who may have been traveling on Highway 17 near Green Bay Road, west of the Town of Bruce Mines.
