Minister Christine Elliott Delivers Opening Address at Ontario Hospital Association’s Health Care Leadership Summit

Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, delivered her first keynote address to the Ontario Hospital Association’s (OHA) Health Care Leadership Summit, where she committed to work with the sector to improve the delivery of health care for the people.

“The people of Ontario need to know that the government and their health care system are working together to bring forward meaningful change and to end hallway health care,” said Minister Elliott. “Creating a sustainable health care system requires vision. We must be innovative. That’s why we are more committed than ever to working with our partners to meet the growing demand for hospital services and ensure patients get the most appropriate care in a system that works for them.”

The summit gives health care leaders across the province the opportunity to meet with government officials and share ideas about how to work together to solve some of the biggest challenges facing the sector. During the summit, Minister Elliott spoke directly with hospital leaders.

“As Patient Ombudsman, I had a unique opportunity to see first-hand just how hard the health care system works to care for Ontario’s patients and their families,” said Minister Elliott. “I know there is more to be done to ensure Ontarians get the care they need. We have a big challenge ahead of us. Together, we will listen to patients and caregivers, health care leaders and front-line staff to create a health care system to care for generations to come.”
