{"id":8721,"date":"2017-12-13T08:38:04","date_gmt":"2017-12-13T13:38:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=8721"},"modified":"2017-12-13T02:59:51","modified_gmt":"2017-12-13T07:59:51","slug":"operation-safe-trucking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2017\/12\/13\/operation-safe-trucking\/","title":{"rendered":"Operation Safe Trucking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Dec 13, 2017 @ 08:38<\/b><\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div><div class=\"divider\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-e1501592123859.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-101 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-300x236.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a>The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Detachments will be participating in Operation Safe Trucking, a province-wide OPP initiative from December 11 &#8211; 15, 2017.\u00a0The focus of the initiative will be enforcing the rules of the road and moving violations for commercial motor vehicles (CMV).<\/p>\n<p>The OPP, along with our partners, will be focusing\u00a0on violations such as the following; Speeding, Aggressive Driving, Distracted Driving, Follow Too Close, Driver Impairment, Hours of Service Violations, Lack Of Occupant Restraints, Improper Lane Change, Improper Turns, Fail to Yield Right of Way, Improper Passing and Disobey Traffic Control. These violations are attributable to many collisions involving commercial motor vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>The OPP investigates thousands of preventable commercial motor vehicle collisions every year, making this a serious road safety issue.\u00a0In 2015 and 2016, the OPP responded to a total of <strong>13,668<\/strong> collisions that involved a large commercial transport truck in which <strong>155<\/strong> people lost their lives. From January 1 to December 8, 2017, the OPP responded to <strong>6,252<\/strong> transport truck-related collisions.\u00a0A total of <strong>87<\/strong> lives were lost in <strong>72<\/strong> of those collisions<\/p>\n<p>As part of the OPP&#8217;s commitment to saving lives on Ontario roads, it has developed a\u00a0CMV Collision Mitigation Strategy that aims to reduce the number of CMV-related collisions on OPP-patrolled roads and highways.<\/p>\n<p>The OPP continues to conduct annual CMV enforcement and education campaigns to help keep Ontario highways safe and continues to collaborate with the Ministry of Transportation, the Ontario Trucking Association and other important CMV safety partners that help keep our highways safe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The ultimate goal of this campaign is to educate commercial vehicle drivers, and to focus on unsafe CMV driving behaviours.&#8221; &#8211; Says Staff Sergeant Megan Cavanagh, Detachment Commander Superior East OPP.<\/p>\n<div class=\"grammarly-disable-indicator\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dec 13, 2017 @ 08:38 The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Detachments will be participating in Operation Safe Trucking, a province-wide OPP initiative from December 11 &#8211; 15, 2017.\u00a0The focus of the initiative will be enforcing the rules of the road and moving violations for commercial motor vehicles (CMV).
