Homelessness in Canada has doubled since 2018, driven\u00a0by\u00a0the shrinking supply of affordable rental units for the lowest-income Canadians.\u00a0According to the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness,\u00a0nearly a\u00a0million more Canadians are\u00a0on the edge of homelessness right now.\u00a0So without action,\u00a0the\u00a0problem in our community is likely to get even worse.<\/p>\n
But we have a once-in-a-decade opportunity to change course, because\u00a0Canada\u2019s\u00a0next\u00a0national housing strategy is\u00a0being developed\u00a0right now.\u00a0A\u00a0reimagined Canada Housing Benefit alone could reduce homelessness by 60%\u00a0and provide housing security for hundreds of thousands of families. We\u00a0also need\u00a0deeply affordable housing.<\/p>\n
Now is the\u00a0time\u00a0for the government to prioritize\u00a0homelessness. Our\u00a0federal representatives\u00a0need to\u00a0hear us\u00a0loud\u00a0and clear.<\/p>\n
