Marie detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged five drivers with a total of 19 impaired-related offences this summer. All incidents occurred north of the city, in the evening and early morning hours.<\/p>\n<p>On July 2, 2026, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie OPP received a traffic complaint from a concerned citizen, regarding a possible impaired driver who had just departed Harmony Beach. Officers located the vehicle and investigation determined the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Roger MILIA, 49 years-of-age, of Sault Ste. Marie was arrested and charged with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Operation while impaired &#8211; alcohol and drugs<\/li>\n<li>Refusal to comply with demand<\/li>\n<li>Driving a motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor<\/li>\n<li>Fail to have insurance card<\/li>\n<li>Drive with windshield coated<\/li>\n<li>Colour coating obscuring interior<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On July 7, 2026, at approximately 10:28 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie OPP received a traffic complaint on Highway 563 in Batchawana Bay, regarding a possible impaired driver travelling the area on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). Police located the ATV and conducted a traffic stop, where investigation determined the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Dwayne SAYERS, 29 years-of-age, of Batchawana Bay was arrested and charged with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Operation while impaired &#8211; alcohol and drugs<\/li>\n<li>Operation while impaired &#8211; blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On August 11, 2026, at approximately 7:33 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie OPP was notified of a single motor vehicle collision on Bellevue Valley Road in Goulais River. Police arrived on scene and located a vehicle in the westbound ditch, with no occupants observed. The driver was located a short time later at their residence. Further investigation determined the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Jasmine THERRIEN, 22 years-of-age, of Goulais River was arrested and charged with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Operation while impaired &#8211; alcohol and drugs<\/li>\n<li>Operation while impaired &#8211; blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)<\/li>\n<li>Fail to report accident<\/li>\n<li>Fail to remain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On August 13, 2026, at approximately 3:22 a.m., Sault Ste. Marie OPP was notified of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 552 West, near Rooley Lane, in Goulais River. Police arrived on scene and located a pick-up truck upside down in the eastbound ditch, with no occupants observed. The driver was located after an extensive search by police, with assistance from the OPP Emergency Response Team and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Canine Unit. Further investigation revealed the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Jordan GLUGOSH, 41 years-of-age, of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan was arrested and charged with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Operation while impaired &#8211; alcohol and drugs<\/li>\n<li>Operation while impaired &#8211; blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)<\/li>\n<li>Dangerous operation<\/li>\n<li>Fail to report accident<\/li>\n<li>Fail to remain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On August 29, 2026, at approximately 7:08 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie OPP received a traffic complaint on Highway 17 in Goulais River. Witnesses reported a southbound vehicle swerving in and out of traffic, speeding and travelling with its right signal light on. Officers located the vehicle and investigation determined the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Julie MARTIN, 48 years-of-age, of Goulais River was arrested and charged with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Operation while impaired &#8211; blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)<\/li>\n<li>Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All accused individuals were released with court dates in Sault Ste. Marie. They were each issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension and their vehicles were impounded for seven days.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to the concerned citizens who called police to report these dangerous driving behaviours. If you suspect a driver is impaired by alcohol, drugs or even fatigue, please call 9-1-1.
