\"\"<\/a>This fall, thousands of participants in 30 communities across Ontario will come together at the Kidney Walk, united by a shared commitment to improving the lives of Canadians affected by kidney disease.<\/p>\n

Whether walking in support of a loved one living with kidney disease, celebrating a transplant, honouring the memory of a loved one, or connecting with others going through a similar journey, participants are helping to build a stronger kidney community while raising critical funds to support The Kidney Foundation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Kidney Walk is so much more than a fundraiser,\u201d said Mary-Pat Shaw, President of The Kidney Foundation\u2019s Ontario Branch. \u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity for people living with kidney disease, their families, caregivers, donors, transplant recipients and healthcare professionals to come together. The sense of community and connection experienced at the events is truly inspiring.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sault Ste. Marie resident Christina Kenny has lived with kidney disease her whole life. She says \u201cThe Kidney Walk is important to me because chronic kidney disease has affected several generations of my family. I have seen firsthand the impact kidney disease can have, not only on the person living with it, but on their entire family. My hope is that continued research will lead to better treatments and brighter futures for the generations of our family still to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the past three years, Kidney Walk participants across Ontario have raised over a million dollars annually to support The Kidney Foundation\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our supporters,\u201d added Shaw. \u201cTheir commitment has enabled us to fund innovative kidney research and provide programs and services that help Canadians navigate the challenges of kidney disease. We hope to reach the $1 million milestone once again this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

More than 4 million Canadians are affected by kidney disease, a serious chronic condition that often progresses with few symptoms until its later stages. For those living with kidney failure, treatments can require life-sustaining dialysis several times a week or a kidney transplant. While transplantation offers the best outcomes, it is not a cure and requires lifelong medical care.<\/p>\n

The impact of kidney disease extends beyond physical health. Many individuals and families also face significant emotional and financial challenges throughout their journey. Funds raised through the Kidney Walk help the Foundation advance world-class kidney research, deliver peer support while also providing trusted information through educational materials, webinars and websites like the Kidney Community Kitchen.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to supporting people at every stage of their kidney journey,\u201d says Shaw. \u201cFrom diagnosis through treatment, transplantation and ongoing support, we want Canadians affected by kidney disease to know they are not alone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Participants can also earn entries to win a travel prize, courtesy of WestJet.
