He was fined $5,000 and received a one-year hunting suspension.<\/p>\n<p>The Ontario Court of Justice heard that on October 25, 2024, conservation officers investigated a bull moose carcass hanging at a camp near Mattawa. Through their investigation, officers determined the bull moose had been shot between October 20 and 25, 2024. Jodouin was not present during the initial inspection.<\/p>\n<p>During a follow-up investigation, conservation officers located Jodouin and discovered he was in possession of the moose head. When initially questioned, Jodouin provided inconsistent explanations regarding how he had obtained the moose. He later admitted to harvesting the animal.<\/p>\n<p>Jodouin also presented a membership card from an organization to justify the harvest. However, the documentation was insufficient to establish a credible assertion of Aboriginal or treaty rights in Ontario for the purposes of hunting and harvesting wildlife. As a result, he was required to possess a valid moose hunting licence and tag, which he did not have.<\/p>\n<p>Justice of the Peace Lauren Scully heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, North Bay, on April 23, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>To report a natural resource problem or provide information about an unsolved case, members of the public can call the ministry TIPS line toll free at 1-877-847-7667.
