Security camera footage showed an individual concealing an item later identified as a 375 mL bottle of vodka (commonly referred to as a &#8220;mickey&#8221;) and leaving the store without paying for the item, valued at $17.45.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the investigation and review of the security footage, the individual was identified and arrested on August 28, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Jason NEWHOOK, 54 years old, of Orangeville, was charged with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Theft Under $5,000 &#8211; Shoplifting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on October 1, 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday, August 27, 2026, at approximately 12:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft complaint at a local general store in Hilton Beach.
