Today\u2019s rapidly changing global landscape is causing economic uncertainty for many Canadians, including seniors.\u00a0\u00a0The government is committed to building a strong and resilient economy that improves the quality of life for older Canadians.\u00a0\u00a0The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) plays a crucial role in this effort by providing opportunities for thousands of seniors to stay engaged and active in their communities.<\/p>\n

Terry Sheehan, MP for Sault Ste. Marie\u2013Algoma, is pleased to announce another $7,198 in NHSP funding. This brings the total NHSP support for the Wawa Public Library to over $24,000.\u00a0\u00a0These funds are for the Library\u2019s For Seniors, By Seniors program, which offers activities like knitting, crafts, mental wellness workshops, and fraud prevention sessions. These programs foster creativity and promote social connection and healthy living.<\/p>\n

The NHSP program supports a wide range of projects aligned with key government priorities, including digital literacy initiatives, fraud prevention and awareness programs, and intergenerational mentoring. These efforts aim to support seniors and strengthen communities throughout the Algoma District.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrograms like this are about more than funding\u2014they are about creating places where seniors can stay active, connected and engaged in their communities. The Wawa Public Library\u2019s programing gives local seniors the opportunity to come together, share their skills and knowledge, and build connections through activities that support healthy and active living. In addition, we can also expand our existing collections of large print and audio books and continue our Senior\u2019s Knitting Connections program.
