Barbara Kentner\u2019s death was not an isolated tragedy; it was a reflection of the racism and violence Indigenous people endure daily. The granting of full parole to her attacker, less than two years into his sentence, sends a devastating message that Indigenous lives are treated as expendable. It undermines every principle of justice, accountability, and deterrence that the court sought to uphold.<\/p>\n
Our community is in disbelief as we grieve with Barbara\u2019s family and with all those who have been retraumatized by this decision. WLON calls upon the federal government and the Parole Board of Canada to confront the systemic bias that continues to deny Indigenous victims and families meaningful justice.<\/p>\n
The release of Brayden Bushby is a miscarriage of justice.<\/p>\n
We reaffirm our commitment to stand with our Treaty partners and Indigenous Nations across Canada to demand a justice system that values our lives, respects our laws, and protects our people.
