{"id":85993,"date":"2026-08-19T08:00:39","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T12:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=85993"},"modified":"2026-08-19T08:00:20","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T12:00:20","slug":"nw-forest-fire-region-update-august-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/19\/nw-forest-fire-region-update-august-18\/","title":{"rendered":"NW Forest Fire Region Update &#8211; August 18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>August 18,\u00a02026\u00a0at 6:13\u00a0p.m.\u202fCentral Daylight Time (<abbr>CDT<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p>There were 2 new wildland fires confirmed in the Northwest Region by the evening of August 18.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e8bf7ea915436186705bcce00006ded74\"><strong>Kenora 30 (KEN030) <\/strong>is located near Highway 17, approximately 2 kilometers south of McConnell Lake. The 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ec56b2f64c9499ce322528f9126c8591c\"><strong>Kenora 31 (KEN031) <\/strong>is located near the south end of Ord Lake, approximately 17 kilometers east of Highway 105. The 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the time of this update there are 78\u00a0active wildland fires in the Northwest Region. Of those fires, 9\u00a0are not under control, 3\u00a0are being held, 10\u00a0are under control and 56\u00a0are being observed.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"fires-note\">Fires of note<\/h3>\n<p><strong>The Rinker Lake Complex &#8211; Thunder Bay 36 (THU036), Dryden 34 (DRY034), Dryden 35 (DRY035)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e193074aa7614e14c2eef305358f3492a\">Wildland fire activity across the Complex remains low.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ea4e6f07a94ad87d1111bf45db029ff29\">30 FireRangers crews \u2013 made up of personnel from Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Mexico.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e2e3b744d764922469b4402372e3702de\">Fourteen helicopters are dedicated to the Rinker Lake Complex.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"eaf14263a5baa9af067871c7684da5923\">FireRanger crews continued to clear hotspots across the complex, finding some areas with considerable heat. However, long stretches of the perimeter have now been cleared and rechecked, with no heat or hotspots detected.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ec31d73d3f4bc9b7ffd0401f0c01ffa76\"><strong>THU036<\/strong> is currently measuring 301,240\u00a0hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ee828521e4c4939a92c48cf2221611483\"><strong>DRY034<\/strong> is currently measuring 45,800\u00a0hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e25414e9a869e9d82cff59c54450d3609\"><strong>DRY035<\/strong> is currently measuring 30,201 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Atikokan Cluster &#8211; Fort Frances 13 (FOR013), Fort Frances 14 (FOR014), Fort Frances 15 (FOR015)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e0ac79e076089154a3f41b799467a4eb7\">Crews continue to seek out and extinguish hotspots identified by infrared scans and demobilize equipment from areas where the fire perimeter has been contained. Helicopters are being utilized for crew and equipment movement as well as bucketing support as required.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e6df23f3e72aa816f74ffa0b62b576e10\">Recent rainfall has helped keep fire behaviour to a minimum.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e5939ebbc54c8ba2522ebdc8611bb6aa0\"><strong>FOR013<\/strong> is currently measuring 25,313\u00a0hectares and remains being observed.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e4d118446115c0ed5f56759d43a15af10\"><strong>FOR014<\/strong> is currently measuring 51,768\u00a0hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e662867149b6e6406faca59db4bd4fa0f\"><strong>FOR015<\/strong> is currently measuring 42,273\u00a0hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>August 18,\u00a02026\u00a0at 6:13\u00a0p.m.\u202fCentral Daylight Time (CDT).
